Donald R. “Rick” “Hardy” Houdasheldt Jr. 55, Oblong, Illinois passed away at 11:33 a.m. Saturday, March 30, 2013, at Crawford Memorial Hospital, Robinson, Illinois following an apparent heart attack.
Born in Olney, Illinois on February 3, 1958, he was the son of Donald Richard “Hardy” Houdasheldt Sr. and Rosetta “Rose” (Jacobs) Houdasheldt. Rick was a self employed contractor; co-owner of Henpeck Mercantile, Oblong, Illinois; former owner of Robinson Century 21 Realty and Auctioneer; he also did drywalling for 21 years. Rick served two terms on the Oblong Village Board where he was instrumental in many decisions for the improvements in the Village of Oblong. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Oblong, Illinois and Robinson Jaycees. He enjoyed playing golf; woodworking; gardening; was an avid St. Louis Cardinal fan and always followed sporting events that his girls participated in. Time with family and friends were an important part in Rick’s life.
On August 8, 1980, Rick married Diane M. Stone, who survives. Also surviving are his parents; two daughters and a son-in-law, Bethany & D. J. Davis and Hanna Houdasheldt; a brother and sister-in-law, Dan & Dana Houdasheldt; one uncle & aunt, Mark & Donna Jacobs, a nephew, Josh Houdasheldt, a niece, Mandy Houdasheldt, a cousin, Troy Jacobs; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Mark & Amy Stone, Susan & Tony Madlem, John & Michelle Stone, Steve & Rosemary Stone, David & Gina Stone, Michael & Cheryl Stone, Julia & David Turner and Brenda & Heath Womack along with several nieces and nephews.
Rick was preceded in death by his grandparents, Edna & Albert Jacobs and Vera & Lawrence Houdasheldt; one cousin, Todd Jacobs and his father-in-law, Edward Stone.
Bro. Phil Boyd and Bro. Joe Cunningham will officiate the funeral service. Burial will be in the Oblong Cemetery, Oblong, Illinois.
